JACKSON, MS--(Marketwire - October 29, 2007) - Saxophonist Andre Delano is returning to his old stomping ground at Jackson State University to record a song for his sophomore album, "My So Fine," to be released June 2008 on 7th Note Entertainment (http://www.andredelano.com).
Auditions will be held to feature a JSU student tuba player on the track, "JSU Jam." The song will pay homage to Delano's undergraduate experience while attending the university. "My love for JSU and my love experiences while at the university served as inspiration for this song," Delano says. "It is only fitting that I capture the spirit of Jackson State University by recording a student musician from the Sonic Boom of the South Marching Band."
Jimmie James Jr., chairman of JSU music department, and Dowell Taylor, assistant professor of music, are excited about Delano's return to the university. "We are extremely elated to take part in this historic recording by one of Jackson State university's finest players," says James, voice of the Sonic Boom of the South. "This is also an honor for our department relative to our new degree concentration in music technology."
Taylor, a former tuba player, agrees. "It always makes a former teacher feel extremely proud to know that one of his students has been successful in his chosen career," says Taylor, director of the Sonic Boom from 1984 to 1992, including the years Delano was a JSU saxophonist. "It is especially pleasing when you have played a small part in his developmental process. Andre always demonstrated the potential to be as successful as he is today. "Taylor continues: "It is admirable that he's so motivated to reach back and help the present students experience the same type of success that he is experiencing now."
The recording will take place on campus using the Music Technology Program at Jackson State's recording studio. Directed by Taylor, the program serves undergraduate students seeking to become experts in the field of digital music recording, music production and computer-assisted instruction. The program also provides music instruction in a modern technology laboratory equipped with the latest synthesizers and computer software.
